The beautiful city of Limassol and its surrounding areas encompass a plethora of unique and wonderful attractions that are undoubtedly worth your visit. When holidaying in Limassol do not miss on the chance to visit some of these memorable places, it is an opportunity of a life time!

Kourion is one of the most captivating archaeological sites found on the island, near Episkopi in Limassol. The magnificent ancient city dates as far back as the 12th century BC, and in the past, was famed as one of the most awe-inspiring cities in the Mediterranean. At present, the splendid Greco-Roman Amphitheatre has been completely restored where theatrical and musical performances are currently held. When in the area, do not let the opportunity pass you by and attend one of the performances which will surely captivate tour soul!

The plethoras of ruined houses found at Kourion originate from the Roman period. Such examples are the House of Gladiators, the House of Eustolios and the House of Achilles. The most significant feature of the houses is the mosaic decorated floors which date back to the 5th century AD, during the Christian Basilica. The most famed structure found at Kourion is the Nymphaeum, which was a sacred establishment dedicated to the water nymphs, dating to the 2nd century AD.

The Kourion Theatre found in the Kourion Archaeological site, is a symbol of the island’s culture! The structure is estimated to have been constructed in the beginning of the 2nd century AD and the theatre’s architectural style resembles the Hellenistic Architecture.

Although the ancient theatre was originally constructed by the Greeks, it underwent several changes through the passage of time. When the island was under the Romans’ rule, the seats of the theatre were moved so as to have a large distance from the stage. This was because the spectators needed to be protected from the wild animals that were on the stage, during gladiator contests. The theatre’s final structure was shaped at the end of the 2nd century AD. Unfortunately, in the 4th century AD, the theatre was ruined but today it has finally been restored and renovated so visitors have the chance to enjoy live musical and theatrical performances, set in a historic environment! The grand ancient theatre is ideally located on the peak of a hill, where you marvel at the splendid surrounding views of Limassol’s coastline.
