Although the ancient theatre was originally constructed by the Greeks, it underwent several changes through the passage of time. When the island was under the Romans’ rule, the seats of the theatre were moved so as to have a large distance from the stage. This was because the spectators needed to be protected from the wild animals that were on the stage, during gladiator contests. The theatre’s final structure was shaped at the end of the 2nd century AD. Unfortunately, in the 4th century AD, the theatre was ruined but today it has finally been restored and renovated so visitors have the chance to enjoy live musical and theatrical performances, set in a historic environment!
