Akamas Peninsula- A Jewel in Paphos

the chance surpass and spend a day in Akamas, a truly picturesque jewel on the island. Akamas National Park encompasses 230 square kilometres of valleys, gorges and magnificent beaches which houses a massive diversity of wildlife and fauna. Akamas is a piece of heaven that remains untouched by man, so all you nature lovers hurry up! You will unquestionably be amazed by the natural beauty of the area.

In this spectacular area you will find 16 different species of butterflies, over 150 varieties of birds, around 20 types of reptiles and more than 10 different kinds of mammals all living harmoniously. The rich variety of flora that exists is outstanding; some are so unique they have only been seen within Akamas.

In Akamas there are multiple activities you can engage in including going on nature trails, visiting a gorge, the famous Baths of Aphrodite and swimming in the soothing waters of the sea.

Avakas Gorge is found on the western tip of Akamas Peninsula just under 20 kilometres from Paphos. The trail you can take to reach the gorge is around 2 kilometres long with steep rocks on both sides which reach nearly 300 feet. In the depth of the gorge, you will come upon extremely rare plants, reptiles, huge cliffs and even wild animals.

Nature Trails

Within Akamas Peninsula you will find three nature trails you can enjoy. These are the Adonis Trail, the Smigies Trail and the most poplular of all, the Aphrodite Trail. Whichever you choose is equally amazing! While walking through the rocky hiking paths you will encounter the untouched beauty of the island. You will walk through gorges and valleys, view the rare vegetation and be mesmerized by the pictorial view. When visiting Akamas Peninsula, it is recommended you stay and watch the amazing sunset.

Baths of Aphrodite

The Baths of Aphrodite is the most visited attraction of Akamas in Paphos. The Baths of Aphrodite is a wonder of nature, featuring a caved-like shallow pool surrounded by rich greenery that caters for the shade and a spring provides the water to the pool. According to mythology, while the goddess Aphrodite was bathing in the pool she met Adonis and fell in love. Locals say that the waters hold special powers, and that women who splash their faces with it will remain young and beautiful forever. Do you think it is true?

Blue Lagoon

The crystal blue waters in this tiny bay are so extremely vivid and blue that you are able to clearly see the sea bed underneath. Located in the Akamas Peninsula, the bay is only accessible by boat. The azure waters in this area are so inviting and refreshing and that you will want to swim for hours. Do not let the opportunity pass by, and go snorkelling to explore the beautiful sea life underneath.
